About Oban Air Sports

Oban Air Sports was founded on a dream of the proprietor Kevin MacCuish. Kevin has been flying a variety of aircraft from the tender age of 12. At 31 he has finally realised his dream of establishing his own school where he can impart his knowledge and wisdom on the new pilots joining this rapidly expanding sport.

It was in the early 90’s after much questioning and persistence Kevin tasted his first experience of flight in a post war era sailplane. It was then he was instantly hooked and proceeded to take formal lessons at 12 years of age. Making rapid progress Kevin was assessed ready to undertake solo flight by the age of 14 however due to UK legislation had to wait to his 16th birthday. Not long after his 16th birthday Kevin flew solo on a sailplane and since that day has not looked back.

As well as flying Microlight aircraft he also fly’s the more conventional type of light aircraft and has completed half the hours required for his helicopter pilot’s license. Kevin’s brother Gary is also a well established pilot and in due time will do his instructors rating and assist with the running of the school.
